Notable Team Physicality Details

  1. As is with the overall physicality numbers, neither team held big edges in any given area. NEW YORK took the "overpowering force" wins again in rebounding, but at +2 a far cry from the +8 in game one.

  2. A few other areas of note for the Knicks are better wins absorbing drives (+4), and they had success getting free of defenders, even accruing 7 wins when it led to an advantage.

  3. INDIANA was on top in active hands/hounding ballhandlers (+2 wins), as well as another +2 wins in bumps, grabs and holds, pushes, chucks

  4. With regards to picking up/pressuring in the backcourt the Pacers continued to be more active throughout with 44 instances (to New York's 16, and 4 "physicality wins" where they made it significantly wearing and troublesome, not just routine.

Analysis:

  • Karl-Anthony Towns had the huge fourth quarter (11 wins), but was also making things happen in Q2 (7 wins), as he went on to the lead the team in all physicality categories as predicted in the bounceback from the poor game two. He remains the king of the "Level 2+ Force play" as well.

  • Jalen Brunson continues to take more "physicality suffered" than any other player in this series, and yet still delivers important clultch play.

  • Mikal Bridges had a very active game defensively, with lots of grabs, absorbing drives, and fighting over screens.

Analysis:

  • Myles Turner led the Pacers in all the major physicality stats, and led both teams in wins and knockdowns.

  • Pascal Siakam Another solid game for physicality. The rebounding tussles are constant in this series and cost a lot of energy.

  • Aaron Nesmith twisting his ankle may have cost the Pacers the game, happening as it did midway through the third quarter with the Pacers about to go up 15. If he's out for game four the Knicks' chances obvisouly increase.

Final Take

Game three delivered on every front—physicality, intensity, and turning points that swung with every possession. Neither team blinked, and by the end, the numbers told the story: 126–124 in physicality wins, nearly identical RPR ratings, and a near dead heat in Level 2+ Force plays. For the second time in the series, it was a draw in the physicality war, but the Knicks got the win and game four looms...
